Elections for Cruising fleet officers will be held at the annual business meeting Saturday, February 25th, 10 am at the Club. The four offices up for consideration are Fleet Captain for Racing, Fleet Captain for Cruising, Fleet Secretary, and Fleet Treasurer. The job responsibilities and duties for each office are attached as published on the Boat Club web site.
Any Cruising fleet member who wishes to nominate or be nominated for an office should submit their name to the Cruising Fleet Secretary by Wednesday, February 15th, 2017 along with a minimum of five supporting signatures of current Cruising Fleet members.
In addition to the annual business meeting February 25th, there will be a Racing Fleet meeting Saturday, March 11th at 10 am scheduled for those who wish to race in 2017, and a Cruising Fleet meeting Saturday, March 18th 10 am for those who are interested in cruising with others in the Fleet in 2017.
In the meantime, attached are the Club and Cruising Fleet Annual calendars of events scheduled, both racing and cruising.
Please watch your e-mails for updates, reminders, and agendas in advance of each meeting. Our next event is hosting the February Monthly Meeting Thursday, February 2nd. If you can help with some light appetizers and/or nibbles please contact me.

Hi Paul -
The Cruising Fleet Executive Committee has taken a chapter from the Constitution & By-Laws of the Club to be a more appropriate way to handle Fleet elections. If you remember last year's annual meeting, Joey G and Karen Horton abruptly resigned, and we were lucky that Morris and Mark English stepped up to the plate when they did. We want people to elect officers that they feel will do a good job, and we don't want to have to scramble to fill vacancies. Members should know who is nominated for a position, especially if there is to be a run-off election. Thus, we're asking those who are interested to step up to the plate in advance so there is plenty of transparency.

In that case, should we start having monthly meetings for the Cruising Fleet?
Should we have separate Cruising fleet meetings in advance of the annual meeting?
Should the Cruising Fleet come up with its own Constitution & By-Laws?
Do we really want that?

Hi Paul -
The Cruising Fleet Executive Committee has taken a chapter from the Constitution & By-Laws of the Club to be a more appropriate way to handle Fleet elections.

Hi Harry –
For good reason there is a time separation between the nominating process and the voting process in the Boat Club. Until the events of last year, there was no need to split up nominations and elections in the Cruising fleet. Now, with the potential of more than one person running, the members have the right to know in advance who the candidates are, and candidates have the right to campaign if they wish too. We were trying to avoid a separate meeting just to nominate candidates, but we could do that if folks want to come out for two meetings.

Lets just have nominations and elections at the meeting. If we want to change the procedure for the future, we can vote on it then.

Hi Paul -
The Cruising Fleet Executive Committee has taken a chapter from the Constitution & By-Laws of the Club to be a more appropriate way to handle Fleet elections.

When did the cruising fleet adopt a requirement for prior submission of officer nominees along with 5 supporting signatures, and where is this documented?

I am not worried about the number or any supporting signatures.
It would be nice to allow people to know, in advance, if you want to volunteer, so we could support you or someone else.
I think its respectful in a volunteering club environment to allow people to know you are available for a job.
or if they are NOT wanted in a job.
frankly there have been people in the past who have taken this particular Job and found out they DID NOT want or understand the work involved,
but know how to complain a whole bunch.

We vote on everything else, scoring changes, trophies, etc.
This is a major change to the governance of the fleet.

If you are following the example of the club, than per Matt's note this type of change should be put to a vote, as are all changes to the club's constitution and bylaws.
